{The Other Side of the Lens}

About a month ago my super talented friend Susan Robichaud from Kansas City ventured out for a visit in order to shoot my maternity session.  I have to admit I was a little nervous about it.  As a pregnant lady, I just feel kind of fat, swollen and generally not beautiful.  Plus the thought of baring parts of my body to anyone let alone having it photographed was not appealing either.  I write about this because I think that is how most women feel when it comes to maternity portraits, it’s SO NORMAL!!  If Susan wasn’t my friend and I wasn’t a photographer I don’t think I would have had a maternity session done-my lack of self confidence would have gotten the best of me.  But when your good friend is one of the best maternity photographers in the country-you don’t say no!

During the session, Susan made me feel so comfortable and it was really fun to be on the other side of the lens.  All my nervousness was gone (for the most part) and I just had fun and trusted her to pose and light me in the most flattering way.  I have to admit it was really cool to be the client for once.  When she emailed me an image as a sneak peak I could hardly wait to see more!  Once I got to see all the images, I was just so excited about how they turned out and I was so happy that I did the session.  Sure I may not be as ”thin” as I once was, but this baby is a miracle and I will treasure these images for the rest of my life as a memory of this special time.

I guess my point to all this is that so many times I hear pregnant mama’s who just don’t think they are ________ enough (skinny, pretty etc.) to have a maternity session done.  But I think no matter how much weight you have gained, whether you are a size 2 or 20…pregnancy is a beautiful thing and you should celebrate your bump.  It’s only there for such a short period of time.

I wanted to share one of my favorite images from my session with Susan and say thank you to her for documenting such a special time in my life.

{Erik and Jenni-Part 2}

Things are winding down around here as I prepare for maternity leave.  It’s hard to believe in a few more weeks we will be a family of three!  But before I am consumed with baby things I wanted to share a few more images from Erik and Jenni’s wedding in Salina that I shot a few weeks ago.

I loved Jenni’s dress.  The beading on it was beautiful!

I love bubbles!  Believe it or not, this shot is not always an easy one to get.  In Kansas the bubbles normally blow away and there always seems to be someone who wants to stand right in front of me.  But when it happens….I love it.

Here are a couple of my favorite outdoor shots of the couple and bridal party.

This is one of my all time favorite reception shots.  It just sums up Erik and Jenni who are a couple who just love to have fun together.  I had so much fun watching them interact.  I know there will be lots of laughs in this household for many years to come!

{Harvest is On}

Harvest is in full swing around here.  I am hoping that it gets over soon before the baby is born!  Tonight I thought it would be fun to ride with John in the combine for awhile because he has been working really late and I am often asleep by the time he gets home.  Thankfully about 5 mins into my ride, the combine broke down and I got a ride back to the pickup.  It was only a bolt that needed replaced so it wasn’t a big deal, but I think all that bouncing could have put me into labor!

Speaking of wheat….here are a couple of images from my mini-session with T and M.

{Sweet Baby J}

Today I had SO much fun photographing 10 day old newborn baby J.  Her parents made the trek out to here from Salina and I was so happy they did because she was an absolute doll!  Up until now, I have been feeling pretty patient about the birth of my own baby, but I have to admit that spending time with Miss J made me feel a little impatient.  I just hope my own babe is as good of a subject as this sweetie!

I think this is one of my new all time favorite shots!  I just love the contrast of a itty bitty baby in the arms of their daddy.

{Erik and Jenni…sneak peak}

Yesterday I was so thrilled to be the wedding photographer for Jenni and Erik’s wedding in Salina!  It was an amazing wedding and all the details were absolutely beautiful!

Unfortunately, I am headed to Newton early this morning for a three day photography workshop and can’t blog as many images as I normally would like to right now…but I did take the time to edit a few of my favorites from in front of the Masonic Temple in Salina.
